"Karuna" is a Sanskrit word which is translated as meaning "any action taken which lessens the suffering of others" or, in short, "compassionate action."
It doesn't take a full "enlightenment" (in Buddhist or Hindu terms) for us to realize we are all One. To act out of compassion toward others - helping them in general and aiding them to heal - is an act of love for All. When we help others, we receive healing effects on our own lives, in much the same way that volunteers often feel personally rewarded when they have been of service to others. Of course, compassionate action must also be accompanied by wisdom, to have the highest effect. All Enlightened Beings who have worked, or are currently working, to end suffering on earth are motivated by compassionate action (Karuna).
The International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT) developed the Karuna Reiki® System for those who wish to expand their experience beyond Usui Reiki. One must be previously attuned to Usui Reiki to learn Karuna Reiki ®, as it builds on that base of knowledge.
All energy work is based on the belief that unresolved emotional, mental and/or spiritual stresses can lead to illness expressed by the physical body. Thus, a person whose life is filled with work or family worries may find him or her -self dealing with ulcers, heart disease or depression if they do not take steps to relieve the problems. Traditional Usui Reiki is a wonderful, simple technique for relaxation and healing. When the body is relaxed, our minds are clear, making us better able to sort through and deal with the situations life throws at us. After clearing our life energy (ki, chi) with Reiki, our bodies can heal themselves.
With Karuna Reiki ®, a Practitioner is able to access additional frequencies of energy to assist in deeper healing, especially for emotional issues. Karuna Reiki ® engages very high frequencies of healing energy, raising the Practitioner's own energy vibration and giving him or her powerful tools to work with. Working at this higher vibration permits the Practitioner easier access to the healing energies of Enlightened Beings (Ascended Masters, Angels, Bodhisattvas, and others) whose guidance can be used in the work. Working with the wisdom and guidance of the Enlightened Beings and his/her own Higher Self, the Practitioner is able to use compassionate action, combined with wisdom, to help the client on their path to wholeness and health.
The Karuna Reiki® Training curriculum has been determined by the ICRT. There are two Practitioner Levels and two Master Levels. To begin Karuna Reiki® Practitioner training, one must have completed a minimum of the Advanced Practitioner (or Level 3) course in Usui Reiki. Current Reiki Masters receive all 4 levels in the Karuna Master training.
Usui Reiki Practitioners and Masters should have one year of experience working with the Usui Master Symbol before taking Karuna Reiki ® training, in order to "condition" the body to taking on high frequencies of energy.
Karuna Reiki ® training must be taken from a certified Master who is registered with the International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT). Teaching materials come from the Center, which has also laid out teaching standards and a code of ethics for this practice.
Participants in all Karuna Reiki ® classes receive a certificate from the ICRT, a copy of which is faxed to the Center to complete the registration process. Once the process is complete, the student receives a registration number and seal from the Center. The cost of registration is included in the course.
In brief, the courses include:
Practitioner I and II: Introduction to the Karuna Reiki ® system, attunement to the 8 Karuna Practitioner Symbols, and instruction and practice in the use of the symbols.
Master I and II (& Teacher) - All of the above, plus: Attunement to and instruction in the use of the 4 Karuna Master Symbols, training and practice in giving attunements at all 4 levels of Karuna Reiki ®, review of class outlines and other teaching materials.
All courses include ICRT manuals and certificates. In addition, those training at the Master Level at T-Line Services will receive The Book on Karuna Reiki - Advanced Healing Energy for our Evolving World by Laurelle Shanti Gaia at no extra charge.
